Site Safety Rules & Code of Conduct

Last Updated: August 17, 2026

These rules apply to every person on the Red 1 Airsoft site, including players, spectators, and accompanying adults. They exist to keep people safe. Breaking them can get someone seriously hurt, and will get you removed from the site without a refund.

Marshals have final authority on all safety matters at all times. Their instruction is not a negotiation.

Eye Protection — The Absolute Rule

Eye protection must be worn at all times on the game area and anywhere outside a designated safe zone. There are no exceptions, ever, for any reason.

  • Eye protection must be rated to EN166 B (or an equivalent standard such as ANSI Z87.1+). Fashion sunglasses, prescription glasses, and unrated eyewear are not acceptable.
  • Full-seal goggles are strongly recommended for all players and are mandatory for anyone under 18. Ballistic glasses may be permitted for adults at marshal discretion, but they leave gaps a BB can reach through.
  • Mesh eye protection is permitted at Red 1 Airsoft. Mesh goggles must be undamaged, with no bent, dented or split mesh, and must fit securely with no gaps around the eye socket. Be aware that a BB striking mesh at close range can occasionally fragment, so if you choose mesh you do so understanding that risk. Lens-type full-seal goggles rated to EN166 B give the highest level of protection and are what we recommend, particularly for younger players.
  • Damaged, cracked, scratched or badly fogged eyewear must be replaced before play. Tell a marshal — do not try to fix it on the game area.

If your eyewear fogs or slips during a game, shout "BLIND MAN" loudly and repeatedly. All firing in your area must stop immediately. Wait for a marshal to reach you and escort you to safety. Never lift your goggles to clear them.

Anyone who removes eye protection outside a safe zone will be removed from the site immediately, without refund, and may be banned.

Face and Body Protection

  • Full lower-face protection is mandatory for all players under 18 — a mesh lower mask, full-face mask, or equivalent. Teeth and lips are the most commonly damaged part of the face in airsoft.
  • Lower-face protection is strongly recommended for adults and is included in our rental package.
  • Sensible clothing covering arms and legs is required. Sturdy footwear with ankle support is required — no sandals, no trainers with worn soles, no bare skin on the game area.
  • Gloves are recommended. Hands take a lot of hits.

Power Limits and Chronograph Testing

Every airsoft gun brought onto the site must be chronographed by a marshal before use, at every event, without exception. Our limits are:

  • AEG / automatic and semi-automatic: 350 FPS maximum (measured on a 0.20g BB, approximately 1.13 joules). No minimum engagement distance beyond the general close-quarters rules below.
  • DMR (semi-automatic only, locked): 450 FPS maximum (approximately 1.88 joules), with a 30 metre minimum engagement distance.
  • Bolt-action sniper rifles: 500 FPS maximum (approximately 2.32 joules), with a 30 metre minimum engagement distance.

These limits sit within the statutory kinetic energy limits set by the Policing and Crime Act 2017 (1.3 joules for automatic and semi-automatic, 2.5 joules for single-shot). Any gun measuring above our limits, or above the statutory limits, will not be permitted on the game area.

DMRs must be mechanically or electronically locked to semi-automatic only. A DMR found firing in full-automatic is removed from play for the day. Snipers must be bolt-action. Guns must be re-chronographed after any spring change, upgrade, or repair, and after any change of BB weight.

Attempting to circumvent the chronograph — using a lighter BB for the test, swapping springs after testing, or "hot" guns — results in immediate removal without refund and a likely permanent ban. This is treated as a deliberate safety breach, not a mistake.

Minimum Engagement Distances and Close Quarters

  • Where a minimum engagement distance applies to your gun, you must not fire at a player inside that distance. Switch to a sidearm within the limit, or call a "bang kill".
  • Bang rule: if you are close enough to touch or nearly touch an opponent who has not seen you, call "BANG" clearly instead of firing. The player called must take the hit.
  • If someone calls "bang" on you, take it. Do not turn and fire.
  • Marshals may set additional or reduced engagement distances for specific games, buildings, or for younger players.

Taking Hits and Honesty

Airsoft runs on honesty. There is no referee watching every shot.

  • Any BB strike anywhere on your body, clothing, equipment, or gun is a hit. Ricochets do not count.
  • When hit, shout "HIT!" loudly, raise your hand or a dead rag clearly above your head, and walk to the respawn point or safe zone by the route you have been told.
  • Keep your hand up and your gun lowered while walking off. Do not talk to live players, do not give away positions, and do not fire once you are hit.
  • Repeated hit-taking failures will result in removal from the game and, if it continues, from the site without refund.

Do not accuse other players directly. Report concerns to a marshal and let them handle it.

Prohibited Conduct on the Game Area

  • No blind firing. You must be able to see what you are shooting at, with your eyes over your sights and your head above cover.
  • No excessive overshooting. Fire a controlled burst and stop as soon as the hit is acknowledged. Continuing to fire on a player who has called a hit is an ejectable offence.
  • No physical contact. No tackling, grabbing, pushing, wrestling, or using a gun as a striking weapon.
  • No firing at anyone not wearing eye protection — including marshals, spectators, and members of the public.
  • No firing at animals, wildlife, vehicles, buildings not part of the game area, or anything off site.
  • No climbing on structures, fences, trees or scaffolding unless the marshal has expressly designated it as climbable.
  • No dry firing or gas venting outside designated areas.

Safe Zones

The safe zone is where eye protection can come off. In exchange, strict weapon discipline applies:

  • All magazines removed, chambers cleared, and the gun made safe on entry.
  • Barrel covers or blast bags fitted at all times in the safe zone.
  • Fire selector on safe. Batteries and gas may need to be removed at marshal discretion.
  • No firing of any kind in the safe zone, including test shots and dry fires. Use the designated test-fire area only.
  • Guns are pointed at the ground or into a clearing barrel when handled.

Pyrotechnics, Gas and Batteries

  • Pyrotechnics may only be used with prior marshal approval and only products we permit. They are 18+ only.
  • Never throw a pyrotechnic directly at a person, into a confined space occupied by a person, or into dry vegetation.
  • Gas and green gas may only be handled in ventilated areas away from ignition sources.
  • LiPo batteries must be charged only in the designated area, on a balance charger, and never left unattended. Damaged or swollen batteries must not be brought on site.

Alcohol, Drugs and Fitness to Play

No alcohol or recreational drugs may be brought onto or consumed at the site, and no one under their influence will be permitted to play. This includes prescription or over-the-counter medication that causes drowsiness or affects judgement. Marshals may refuse or withdraw participation on this basis at their sole discretion, without refund.

Tell a marshal at check-in about any medical condition or medication that could matter in an emergency.

Behaviour and Respect

Red 1 Airsoft is open to everyone and we expect people to behave accordingly. The following will result in removal from the site without refund:

  • Harassment, bullying, intimidation or threats.
  • Discriminatory language or behaviour of any kind, including on the grounds of race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, disability, age or gender identity.
  • Aggression or violence towards players, marshals, staff or the public.
  • Abusive or persistent foul language, particularly where under-18s are present.
  • Deliberate cheating, theft, or damage to site property or another person's equipment.

Serious incidents will be reported to the police.

Site Boundaries and Environment

  • Stay inside the marked game boundaries at all times. Do not enter areas taped off, marked out of bounds, or flagged as hazardous.
  • Do not damage trees, fences, hides, crops, or neighbouring property.
  • Take your litter home. Biodegradable BBs still need picking up where practical.
  • Do not interfere with livestock or wildlife.
  • Airsoft guns must be transported to and from the site concealed in a bag or case, and must never be visible in public, in a vehicle window, or in a car park.

First Aid and Incidents

Report every injury, however minor, to a marshal so it can be recorded in the accident book. A first aid kit is maintained on site and marshals will direct you to first aid provision. In a serious incident, marshals will call a full stop — when you hear it, stop firing immediately, make your gun safe, stand still, and await instruction.

If you witness an unsafe act, tell a marshal. Do not attempt to enforce the rules yourself.

Enforcement

Depending on the seriousness of the breach, marshals may issue a verbal warning, remove you from a single game, remove you from the site for the remainder of the day, or ban you from future events. No refund is given where a participant is removed for breaching these rules. Where a breach involves a criminal offence we will report it to the police.

We reserve the right to update these rules at any time, and to give additional or different instructions at a specific event. The safety briefing given on the day forms part of these rules.
